Song Story: THE MUSIC -- JAZZ SHUFFLE TIMING. In my list of 25 music-related prayers I wrote at the ALIVE Music Festival in 2006 and then prayed daily almost at the gym, and often at the altar, for years --- Item 20 was asking God to give me Jazz song ideas for worship. God did! (It's surely not MY creativity to think up a jazz song that shows God at work in ancient history!)

LYRICS

Hezekiah became king of Judah in the South.
Second Chronicles 29 tells us how
this young king refused to leave God   for Assyria.
Led his people to decide to
depend only on LORD God.
Only did what GOD called “Right.”
Opened temples, destroyed idols.
Repaired bad things Ahaz did. Re-
fused to be like his daddy.
   Holy Hezekiah loved God with all his might!

Only 25 when evil   Daddy Ahaz died.
727   B.C.    was Hez's time.
Hezekiah listened to God    through Isaiah's words.
Made people tear down high places
where they'd worshiped false idols.
Second Chronicles 29 tells how Hez led people to God.
Invited the Israel men to come back to Jerusalem.
Holy Hezekiah loved God with all his might!
CHORUS
    WOULD YOU   TAKE A STAND FOR GOD?
    Worship Him no matter what the consequences were?
    God is HOLY. God calls YOU to be holy like Him --
        First Peter 1: 15   tells you to.

Hezekiah stood up against    leaders in the church. Told them, “You SHALL clean your acts and SANCTIFY yourselves.”
Warned that if they did not consecrate themselves to The LORD,
Holy God would turn His back to them -- and they would surely die.
All the people worshiped God!
BOWED THEIR HEADS AND SANG TO GOD.
Gladly brought gifts to LORD GOD,
because their Leader TAUGHT them why:
           Holy Hezekiah loved God with all his might!

Spoken:     GOD'S WORD CONTINUES through the end of Second Chronicles 31:
          “Thus Hezekiah did throughout all Judah, and he did what [was] good and right and TRUE before the LORD his God. And in EVERY work that he began in the service of the house of God, in the law and in the commandment, to seek his God, he did it with all his heart. So he prospered.”
BUT -- As the years passed, HEZEKIAH began to drift in his determination from age 25 to be seek to follow the Lord in holiness and doing God's Word.

Hezekiah BEGAN TO TURN TO FOREIGN KINGS for alliances,

TRUSTING HUMAN [wisdom and calls for] DIPLOMACY,

RATHER THAN trusting in GOD.

Spoken: Fourteen years later, the king of Assyria, named Sennacherib, had conquered all the fortified cities of Hezekiah's kingdom of Judah. Then, in Isaiah 36, God's word says that the Assyrian king sent a diplomat WITH a great ARMY to Hezekiah's people at Jerusalem to preach at them to stop believing Hezekiah's faith that the Lord would again save them.

WHY DO YOU CARE ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED

27 CENTURIES AGO? ....

Because [NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU LOVE GOD,]

this WILL happen to you if you do not DETERMINE to stay on your guard.

(Ephesians 6: 10 to end protection) People, and sometimes Satan The Liar (John 8:44, Jesus's description),
will tell you to question our great Lord God's ability or willingness to save you, or to question

God's very existence.

Like the Assyrian king, they may ask, “Has any god really saved anyone?” When this happens (WHEN - not “if”, because it WILL happen), look back to all that God has already done for you. Keep a list of prayer answers to prepare for the questioning times ahead that will come. Just as Hezekiah looked back and remembered all the times the Lord had saved him when Hezekiah chose to follow God's Word in holiness rather than human concepts of self-centeredness and self-reliance that ignores God's loving desire to help you.

The end of this story is really cool. It's in Isaiah 36: 21: After God's enemy has preached and preached that Hezekiah is wrong to trust God, Hezekiah's people, the tribe of Judah, “held their peace and answered him [the Assyrian King] not a word; for the king's [Hezekiah's] commandment was, 'Do not answer him.'”
And Hezekiah's nation tribe of Judah was, with the tribe of Benjamin, one of the only two out of Israel's twelve tribes who showed their TRUST in Lord God.

Poor Little Fig Tree

Song Story: THE MUSIC. Why is this ballad so slow? Try very quickly saying “Fig Tree Care” without sounding like “Vict'ry there”! And saying fast “fig fruit there” and “Galatians Five Fruit List.”   God was answering prayers for clarity even at 60 beats per minute! :)   See my blog for Songwriting hints about selecting song tempo ("Fast New Songs").

Song Story: THE LYRICS:
       The first two verses of this song's lyrics were completed in about 5 minutes at some store's dark parking lot that I pulled into on my way home from a studio session... at 3:10 A.M.
       I was thinking about someone who was mad at me without even coming to me to ask why I did something that needed to be done. Then I started thinking of how often I gripe at God in my prayers for awhile before remembering that I don't have all the facts and He does, so I should trust Him.
       And then for some reason I thought of this fig tree story in Mark 11 and Matthew 21--

A few years ago I was annoyed again to realize
how many years I had wasted being annoyed with God........
to realize that the answer was so simple.
You just have to know something about fig tree biology,
as told at the end of Verse 3. When you don't understand why God does or doesn't do something, do you remember that you might be missing some facts?

God never is ignorant of all the facts. God's decisions are loving, just.... and just plain Right. No matter what we humans mistakenly think about Him. How much do YOU like it when people decide something about your character that is plain WRONG?

Mark 11:25 is Jesus's word to you and me--- concerning our thoughts about God, also.

Poor little fig tree did not seek Jesus's notice. It

sure did not expect a curse from

God's Own Son, Jesus.

SPOKEN 2: Mark 11: 13 b and 14, plus 20 and 21
“When He [Jesus] came to it, He found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. In response Jesus said to it, "Let no one eat fruit from you ever again." And His disciples heard it.... Now in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. And Peter, remembering, said to Jesus, Rabbi, look! The fig tree which You cursed has withered away.”

Poor little fig tree, it was not the season for

it to bear fig fruit there, so what then was the reason that

poor little fig tree should get cursed or made to die? That

sure sounds mean, sound unjust, by the Son of God, Jesus.

SPOKEN 3:   This story told in both Matthew 21 and Mark 11 had been a stumbling block for me for years, as it is for many people. Who can trust the love of Jesus when he gets mad at a tree for not having fruit when the Bible CLEARLY says it was NOT even TIME for figs?

Simple Answer:
The authors were writing to people who knew all about how fig trees grow so they saw no need to explain what people back then knew:
        Fig trees bear figs FIRST, and then put out leaves to cover the figs. So if you see a fig tree with leaves, you can expect to find something to eat on that tree.

SPOKEN 4: Luke 6:43 to 46, Jesus has just been talking about hypocrites. Then Jesus said to the crowd of people,    "For a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. For every tree is known by its own fruit.... "A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil.... But why do you call Me 'Lord, Lord,' and not do the things which I say?”

Renaissance Life

Song Story: THE MUSIC. The music tracks had been recorded as a game challenge to myself to create something that sounded like Renaissance-style old music, from history. Why? I have no idea except “God.”
The concept of the music game “just came to mind” and it took only about a day to record it back in 2010. And, since it was that style, it took a moment to decide to use the word “Renaissance” in the title and include the song in my Big Words album.

     I literally just played "any" flute for each of the tracks.... and they fit together with very very few changes in the individual notes.
      In November 2011 as I finished fitting in lyrics, I decided that the song needed to BUILD somewhere. That is when I added the playful piano high above the base music. Again, I just played arpeggios of the root chords with various experimentation on SUS chords and 7 chords.... and it all fit. God's Holy Spirit's creative touches, I am convinced.

Song Story: THE LYRICS: The 3rd question... Do you sometimes wonder about the life you didn't have?... is one that was once often in my mind before God gifted to me the joy of this music ministry.   This song took over a year of intermittently fervent praying.... I finished ALL of the studio music tracks except high piano LONG before God helped me figure out simple lyrics that fit into the simple music.
       When our life is weary, when we dream of a different life, Jesus keeps His promises to GIVE it to us if we just accept Him as Lord in our lives (Romans 10:9). And, unlike earth's lords, we can trust Jesus who loves us each so much that He died for us so that we CAN have an ABUNDANT Renaissance Life ---

Snow Off a Collie's Back

Song Story: THE MUSIC. The initial piano arpeggios were fun to develop to imitate
falling snow and rain. The initial concept came from one of my favorite verses, Exodus 3:14,
where God identifies Who He is by saying, simply: “I AM WHO I AM.” That required short, simple music phrases to match the matter-of-fact "I AM" Names of God.

Song Story: THE LYRICS: My collie Jacob is also featured in GREAT DANE FAITH.... and he inspired this song. Jacob and I went hiking in a driving powdery snow. It was so cool (literally:) when I got home and could just brush the snow powder right off his back.... no smelly dog fur. I was studying God's Names as revealed in the Bible during the time of the snowfall...
but I don't know how I made the connection to create this cool song except the one, the usual answer: God helped me see the parable and develop the song that makes His names easy-to-remember.

Dedicated to God in ALL His names 3 April 2009 .... especially the one HE gives.... YHWH in Hebrew, over 6,000 times translated as LORD .... Isaiah 42:8, God clearly states His Name.

Song Story: THE MUSIC
I had to tape a printout of this song into my journal... there is no handwritten journal entry as usual, the words came so fast to me. (1) I stood at (not sat at) the piano during a few moments' break from a task, immediately played this music, immediately came up with the basic words.
(2) Two hours later, I had created my home studio music tracks, typed this music sheet to match the words.

(3) Four hours after that, during a scheduled studio time, J & T Studio recorded this song with my Latin style rhythm guitar.... but Johnny Kyle loved it so much that he grabbed his electric and added his punchy lead guitar.

(4) Then the tracks went to Valley Worship & Praise studio for finalizing... and Claxton Wilson loved the song so much that he quickly added his poppy drums and bass guitar in the style that I haven't yet "conquered".
God is the author. We 3 studios are just the honored developer of His songs for publication on the World Wide Web..... but YOU, ANY of us, can also just create a Psalm of Happy Praise to our LORD God as we go through our days!

Song Story: THE LYRICS:
You've already "sort of seen" these lyrics: PSALM 9. They are in my "Amazing Psalms 'n' Promises" album. That means that the song is almost a quote of one of God's already-published psalms, available as a praise & worship song in His Bible. Like many others, the basics of this song that God inspired was penned and developed by David.

Song Story: THE MUSIC:
The story behind the Coins.... which inspired the initial thoughts of this song's concept.... is actually amusing. I was walking on a large sidewalk in front of a huge bookstore that was about to close. Dozens of people were going in and out, but no one was paying any attention to what they were walking around...... about two dozen large flat washers. From a distance they looked like quarters scattered around the sidewalk along a 4-foot path. I looked, waited, watched --- no one seemed to care about them. So finally I gathered up all the washers into my pocket and then continued my book quest.
This was my last stop before going to my main recording studio,
so we recorded me “playing with” the washers, dropping them onto a cloth, dropping them into a box, and so on for a future sound track. At the time, I had no idea what to use the sounds for....

        but I kept them in mind for a number of months, asking God for some parable song if He wanted. And then one day I suddenly had an “ah-ha--- THAT'S how I can use them to serve God!”   moment. An idea from Him that still amazes me as I listen to this heartbreaking story of what Jesus went through, and how we treat His dear friendship and sacrifice so carelessly sometimes...........
Song Story: THE LYRICS:
The song original concept came from considering how much time I'd do serving my own happiness at the expense of time that could have been done for God's music ministry.... and then how much money I'd spend on things for me, and on..... Written with my deepest apologies to our LORD Who deserve our everything... Who deserves MY everything....    See also the song “God Before All,” written 4 weeks later.

LYRICS
INTRODUCTION
       God's prophecy of that the Good Shepherd He would send-- Jesus-- would be betrayed FOR 30 COINS is often forgotten. Zechariah 11, verse 12 predicts the words of Judas Iscariot: “Then I said to them, "If it is agreeable to you, give me my wages; and if not, refrain." So they weighed out for my wages 30 pieces of silver."
        In verse 13, God foretells the events of Matthew 27 to come 500 years later.
       “And the LORD said to me, 'Throw it to the potter'--that princely price they set on me. So I took the 30 pieces of silver and threw them into the house of the LORD for the potter.”   And the entire prophecy of Zechariah, especially Chapters 10 and 11, is of the bad shepherds in the churches. Zechariah 10:3's prophecy is ASTOUNDING and EXCITING! God says, "My anger is kindled against the shepherds, And I will punish the goatherds.
For the LORD of hosts will visit His flock, The house of Judah.... “ (New KJV)
And then LORD Jesus visited, for 33 years... and we.....

How many coins would it take, for me to decide that I'd betray
a Friend Who dearly loves me, who I'd lived with for years?
How much money would it take to entice me to
stop serving my Friend and start living selfishly,
expecting my Friend's Love would always save me from my
CHOICE to betray my dear Friend....... from the
separation forever from Him?
READING AFTER VERSE 1:    Matthew 26: 14 to 16.
“...one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and said, "What are you willing to give me if I deliver Him to you?" And they counted out to him thirty pieces of silver. So from that time he sought opportunity to betray Him.”

How many hours would take, for me to decide that I'd betray
Jesus who dearly loves me, so much he died for me.
How much fun will I do just for ME? Will I
stop serving Jesus and start living selfishly,
believing quite wrongly that God's Love will save me from my
CHOICE to disobey Jesus,    LORD.    How much
time did I waste NOT serving Him?
READING AFTER VERSE 2: Through John 15, Jesus tells us,
"You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.”....

How many warnings would it take, for me to decide that I'd    obey
God's last command in Matthew, “Go tell the world of God's Love.”
How much time will I waste living for me?
How many people will see hell because of ME, and
others who did NOT teach God's One Way to be saved from their
sins, through Christ Jesus, their True Friend...... How much
time do    I waste NOT warning them?
READING AFTER VERSE 3:   At the end of John 15, Jesus said,
“go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.”...

Song Story: THE MUSIC
The Garageband recording program says the weird instrument is a clavinet. I have no idea what that is.... I just liked it. Sounds like one of those mountain men's band instruments where someone else is blowing into a jug.
   Claxton, who serves our LORD as my drummer for live drum tracks (and for slap bass... I specialize in slide bass)   was amused when I brought him this project with my prepared percussion track saying, “HEY I GOT IN SOME BONGOS TOO!”
       This is yet one more of those "don't ask me where I got the idea, I don't know" ... except has to "be God" songs..... At least, I don't believe our Creative God minds getting credit for such a weird song! Nothing like it in the hymnal song records I've heard!
       By the way -- the entire song took about 8 minutes to write.... complete with the weird chord progressions “in my head”... with our Great Holy Spirit's Ephesians 3:20-style empowering, of course, for His Ephesians 3:21 and More GLORY. Perhaps 2 hours at the most to record all the instrument tracks.   It's God.

Song Story: THE MUSIC
        I was playing around with an F chord riff on the keyboard.... something I don't usually do since I still struggle with that chord on guitar (small hands that hurt so far for that one!). I liked what I recorded, and thought I'd throw in a quick foundation piano for some depth.
       Then started adding some drums for fill.... then found a cool bass line to add.... and a plucking acoustic guitar riff for deliberate conflict in places. I finally decided that trumpets were best to stand above the sonic sound in place and build God's praise song to its conclusion.
       The Holy Spirit guided me to write all this music in 2 hours and 15 minutes. This, like other DianaDee songs, is not genius even to people who like the style.... such fast and exciting music is beyond my training and natural skills. This is God's empowering. I’m no one special. God will do the same for ANY one who asks for wisdom (James 1:5) and empowering (Ephesians 3:20-21) and protection (Ephesians 6: 10-end).

Song Story: THE LYRICS: I prayed to find a psalm that would fit the music.... and the area of the 130s came to mind. I don't know where the idea for a different descant lyrics came from.... Except God; I just started singing the words while listening to a first draft recording. Psalm 134's short but exciting praise words fit God's music perfectly! The words are straight out of God's Bible. Dedicated to Life-Giving Jesus, 15 November 2011
