Song Story:

    The original verses of this ancient hymn tell an amazing story of God's love.  

    The new chorus came from a tearful realization of the true meaning  of Romans 5:8 -- “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”  There's no way that any of us deserve such love,  not even from any human, no matter what “good” we think we've done, and certainly not from Almighty God whose very creation shows only a speck of His greatness (Romans 1).  

    We “deserve to be zapped” and “blasted” and punished and crushed....   

And yet, although we deserve nothing,  

God gave the ultimate gift of Himself to us anyway.  H

is Amazing Grace yearningly calls us to 

come to Him just as we are,  

filthy dirt and all.
