Song Story: THE MUSIC:
I was praying for a nice simple worship song that people could use to praise
LORD God in church.... I'd been working on a lot of psalms songs, so started thinking
that I'd like to write a "call and response" song. Besides, I'd been enjoying playing Bach
around then.
I sat at the sanctuary piano one day, alone with God.... and wrote this song (music
as well as lyrics) in minutes. God's answer.
A story from the recording studio: Neither studio hear song lyrics before the moment when I sing the first draft. Because I wrote this song on Friday on my WAY to my 2nd studio "up North", my first studio producer Johnny didn't hear it for several days. After I finished the lyrics at the 2nd studio, my producer Claxton didn't say anything for a few minutes. Then he commented on the final sentence: "Wow."
This final sentence, I am sure, contains words from God not only in warning but in sorrow at how we in the churches so often act:
CHURCHES THAT DON’T PRAY MUCH ARE SAYING,
“HEY GOD -- THANKS BUT WE CAN HANDLE THIS PART ourselves......”
