Song Story: THE MUSIC:
This song came directly from a discussion with a friend of Matthew 6:6 (when Jesus spoke of private praying in a closet)... a discussion that led to the conclusion that physically on our knees shows humbleness to our great God, but what He is actually looking for is whether we are “on our knees” in our heart, contrite for our sins and rejoicing in His grace we don't deserve.
This song is one of God's very earliest gifts to me -- and probably the 3rd song I wrote for the AMAZING LOVE 'N' LULLABIES album.... which I NEVER expected.... The song story for GREAT DANE FAITH amusingly describes why I'm still so excited that God gave me enough songs that I *NEEDED* to come up with an idea for a second album name. I was in a motel on a trip and sketching out some ideas around 6 AM when suddenly I had (from God of course) the idea to create several albums in the same Naming Pattern that I had quickly come up with for the Amazing Grace 'n' Tears album (which is named after about my 5th song from God, written while sitting in the back of a van at a music festival campground, guitar and water bottle at hand!).
This early song from our LORD God -- January 2009, came only 2 months after I'd "found" by God's grace -- a 'coincidence' that assuredly was God's -- a recording studio I could afford because the owner of Valley Worship & Praise Productions, Claxton Wilson, was willing to give me a deep discount as part of *his* ministry to our LORD God also. (The owner still does.) It's always been one of my favorite "comfort" songs when I'm sad.
Song Story: THE LYRICS:
I like patterns. So in this and many "DianaDee" songs, you'll see verses develop using similar words but deeper meaning as the song moves forward.
1) In this song is a pattern of physical position: Stand > Walk > Sit > Lie. Notice that I also used logic in the order...
You must Stand before you can Walk.
After you walk, you may be tired and want to Sit.
And, most often, you will sit before you Lie down.
2) This song also takes a lyric line that expands a concept as the song develops.
"Protect me from THOUGHTS that hurt you" is expanded through the verses to
"..... WORDS..... DEEDS ....... A HEART. "
But often I will create a cohesion among the verses. For example, in this song,
I begin with a concept that is common to every verse
("HOW YOU AWE ME, MY GOD")
and then circle them back to a common conclusion
("I need YOUR help lest I hurt You").

LYRICS
1
I stand on my knees in awe of You. Though I must stand, still my heart prays.
When I think about all that You have been, though standing, my heart kneels in praise.
HOW YOU AWE ME, MY GOD! No words can explain
the peace and great joy you bring me!
Please rest in my love, I beg on my knees.
Protect me from THOUGHTS that hurt you.
I need YOUR help lest I hurt You.
2
I walk on my knees in awe of You. Though I must walk, still my heart prays.
When I think about all that You promised, though walking, my heart kneels in praise.
HOW YOU AWE ME, MY GOD! No words can explain
the peace and great joy you bring me!
Please rest in my love, I beg on my knees.
Protect me from WORDS that hurt you.
I need YOUR help lest I hurt You.
3
I sit on my knees in awe of You. Though I must sit, still my heart prays.
When I think about all that You have done, though sitting, my heart kneels in praise.
HOW YOU AWE ME, MY GOD! No words can explain
the peace and great joy you bring me!
Please rest in my love, I beg on my knees.
Protect me from DEEDS that hurt you.
I need YOUR help lest I hurt You.
4
I lie on my knees in awe of You. Though in my bed, still my heart prays.
When I think about all that You shall do, though weak in bed, still my heart prays.HOW YOU AWE ME, MY GOD! No words can explain
the peace and great joy you bring me!
Please rest in my love, I beg on my knees.
Protect me from a HEART that hurts You.
I need YOUR help lest I hurt You.
God's SUPPORTING WORDS:
“For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: 'I dwell in the high and holy place, with him who has a contrite and humble spirit, To revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.' ” -- Isaiah 57:15 New KJV
The LORD [is] near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit.
-- Psalm 34: 18 (See also song "PSALM 34 Humbling Jazz")

AND one of my FAVORITE promises from LORD God,
In His book full of promises, Isaiah 57: 15..."For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name [is] Holy: "I dwell in the high and holy [place], With him [who] has a contrite and humble spirit, To revive the spirit of the humble, And to revive the heart of the contrite ones."
