Song Story: THE MUSIC
This song actually could fit the Amazing Hope 'n' HUMOR album because of the way I designed the music. By "I" of course I mean me in partnership with God's Creative Holy Spirit, because the song story is the familiar one --- I just sat at the home studio and played with loops and created 3 different melodies for the 3 movements to fit the mood.... and this music came out within 3 hours --- all tracks. The Holy Spirit's gifting, I confidently declare.
Song Story: THE LYRICS:
I'm usually rather "laid back" as the expression goes. But some things REALLY MIFF me. Church-wise, the top of the list is showing a lack of trusting God when we the Church are supposed to teach people by our Church's EXAMPLE that God CAN be trusted. That all His promises to provide for needs are TRUE. That our fears -- including for meeting the Church Budget -- are evidence of a lack of faith that God will keep His promises like in 2nd Corinthians 9.
ACRONYM "PROOF" HISTORY
A young new pastor, full of "idealistic" faith in God's Word like 2nd Corinthians 9, asked our "old" church to look at scriptures of the widow who put her mite into an offering BOX at the church. No public show of passing the offering plate. He convinced the church leaders to follow the example that Jesus seemed to approve here and in Matthew 6 where he says to give secretly. But within a few months, as offerings went down due to people not yet being used to the new method, many members were clamoring for the old collection plates.
Some of us stood firm and quoted scriptures like these. As time went by, over 2 decades now, the church saw for itself: God DOES provide for the Church.
WE DON'T NEED TO BEG FOR $$$ BY PASSING THE PLATE.
Problem is --- we only pray (ask together for God's blessing) when we're scared. Later the church had to get a 1/4 million dollar building loan. The church created a PROOF fund to collect extra dollars that would go directly toward the loan principal to more quickly pay down the loan. The 30-year rather high interest loan was paid in about 7 years --- God's PROOF that He provided in the
Principal Reduction On Our Financing (PROOF) fund.
CHURCH BUDGET PROOF
INTERLUDES
Throughout the song are interspersed the music to our ancient Hymn of Faith:
bits of minor key adaptation of “The Church's One Foundation” by S. Stone and S. Wesley (CCLI #55377, Public Domain)
The Church's One Foundation is Jesus Christ, her LORD.....
LYRICS
1 -- OPENING “GREEK CHORUS” -- WOE IS US! WOE IS US!
Our church just doesn't have enough!
If you people don't give more,
this church may have to CLOSE ITS DOORS!
Why won't God bless this church?
We're trying hard to DO GOD'S WORK!
WOE IS US! ALL IS LOST if church people don't give enough!
1
To the church of God, at Corinth and God's world now:
Grace to you and peace from God, this church's Father.
God comforts this church, in all our tribulations,
so this church can teach by example that God meets needs.... the
needs of all who suffer.... the needs of all who ask.
Second Corinthians Chapter 1, verse 1 to 6: God
calls His church to trust... and serve Him.... doing this.
2
To the church of God.... YES, to YOUR OWN church:
Grace to you The Church from Jesus Christ, your LORD.
God provides your needs, abundantly supplied.
God makes grace abound, to each church that trusts in God, to
church people who gather and humbly JUST ASK God.
Second Corinthians Chapter 9, 8 to end: God
calls His church to trust... and serve Him.... doing this.
-- INTERLUDE “GREEK CHORUS” --
WOE IS US! WOE IS US!
Our church just doesn't have enough!
If you people don't give more,
this church may have to CLOSE ITS DOORS!
Why won't God bless this church?
We're trying hard to DO GOD'S WORK!
WOE IS US! ALL IS LOST if church people don't give enough!
3
To the church of Christ....
.... YES, to YOUR OWN church:
Grace to you and peace from God, Father of mercies and comfort.
God will punish those who do NOT trust that God won't lie (Titus 1: 2).
See God's example in Psalm One-Hundred-Five. [ 105 ]
If any church shows fear, they TEACH that God might lie.
Second Corinthians Chapter 9, verse 13's proof warning:
God calls His church to trust... and serve Him.... doing this.
God's SUPPORTING WORDS:
“Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, unto the CHURCH of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints.” - 2 Corin. 1:1
2nd Corinthians 9 is written for the CHURCH as well as individuals .... a Warning from God:
“And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all [things], may have an abundance for every good work. Now may He who supplies seed to the sower....”
The Church as well as individuals =
the Sower. God WILL provide... if we ask.
[does the Church presume upon God's blessing and not bother PRAYING TOGETHER for financial and helper resources and opportunities to share God's Word and Missions?]
SECOND Corinthians 9: 6, on.....written to God's CHURCH, not just to individuals >>>
Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop. You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don't give reluctantly or in response to pressure. "For God loves a person who gives cheerfully."
And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others..... For God is the one who provides seed for the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity in you. Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God.
FIRST Corinthians 9: 12 - 13...... written to God's CHURCH, not just to individuals.
If you support others who preach to you, shouldn't we have an even greater right to be supported? But we have never used this right. We would rather put up with anything than be an obstacle to the Good News about Christ.
Don't you realize that those who work in the temple get their meals from the offerings brought to the temple? And those who serve at the altar get a share of the sacrificial offerings. In the same way, the Lord ordered that those who preach the Good News should be supported by those who benefit from it.
[That would indicate the same Godly principle of fair & prompt payment for the building contractors, musicians and sound technicians and office assistants and anyone else needing “a living” from their employment --- even if in the Lord's service.]
